脑膜炎奈瑟球菌又称为脑膜炎双球菌，是流行性脑脊膜炎的致病菌。脑膜炎双球菌是一种革兰氏染色(-)的细菌，主要是寄居在鼻咽部。主要是通过呼吸道传播，而引起化脓性的脑脊膜炎或者败血症。脑膜炎奈瑟球菌的主要诊断通过直接的血清或者是脑脊液的涂片，然后通过革兰氏染色而发现。也可以通过病人的血清或者是脑脊液进行细菌培养，然后再分离发现细菌。还可以通过病人的血清特异性抗体来诊断，主要的治疗药物是青霉素。
