Human gammaherpesvirus 4 (HHV-4)
VR-603 ™
Product category
Viruses
Product type
Animal virus
Classification
Herpesviridae, Lymphocryptovirus
Strain designation
HR1 (clone of P3)
Common name
Epstein-Barr virus
Product format
Frozen
Storage conditions
Vapor phase of liquid nitrogen
General
Specific applications
The virus is not detected by PCR primers targeting EBNA-2, EBNA-3 regions or by immunofluorescence for anti-VCA and anti-EBNA. Virus was detected by monoclonal antibody against EBNA-1 from Chemicon cat# MAB8173.
Characteristics
Comments
The cells are persistently infected with Human herpesvirus 4 (formerly Epstein-Barr virus, EBV). The HR-1 strain of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has a deletion in the EBNA2 gene. The virus is not detected by PCR primers targeting EBNA-2, EBNA-3 regions or by immunofluorescence for anti-VCA and anti-EBNA. Virus was detected by monoclonal antibody against EBNA-1 from Chemicon cat# MAB8173.
Mycoplasma contamination
Not detected
Handling information
Host
Human lymphoblastoid cells (NC37, F265)
Effects
cell enlargement; CPE; syncytia formation
Temperature
37°C (35-37°C)
Incubation
5-12 days
Handling notes
Persistently infected cells; HR-1 strain of EBV has a deletion in the EBNA-2 gene. No feeder cells required, cells grow in continuous culture. Not detected by PCR primers targeting EBNA-2, EBNA-3 regions or antibodies by indirect FA for anti-VCA and anti-EBNA. Virus was detected by monoclonal antibody against EBNA-1 from Chemicon cat# MAB8173.
