Comments : The C. pneumoniae strains are at times referred to as TWAR strains after TW-183 (ATCCVR-2282) and AR-39 (ATCC53592). Cytotoxic (nonproductive) at high MOI. Intracellular inclusions contain no glycogen (iodine stain negative). Inclusions will stain with monoclonals against the LPS (genus antigen) and monoclonals directed specifically against C. pneumoniae.
