Further information:
male specific (4409). Cells are not killed by infection. Single-stranded DNA, filamentous (4410). As an alternative host, DSM 11539 can be used. Host propagation on F+, F' or Hfr strains, F pili used as receptor. Used in Expt. 49 in "Sourcebook of Experiments for the Teaching of Microbiology", eds. S.B. Primrose and A.C. Wardlaw, Academic Press (1982). A series of M13 derivatives has been constructed as cloning vectors for DNA sequencing.
