This is a recombinant Suid Herpesvirus 1 (Pseudorabies virus) containing a copy of the lac Z gene.
The lac Z insert is under the control of the endogenous viral gpX gene promoter.
The virus forms blue plaques in the presence of Bluogal TM(BRL), and is resistant to BrdUrd.
